The R107 series SLK is rapidly becoming sought-after by collectors and enthusiasts for its timeless good looks, and this example with its low mileage and original unmolested condition will please the discerning buyer. This car has the proven and reliable 142kW 2.3L Kompressor (supercharged) engine and can sprint to 100km/h in just 6.9 seconds. Features include cruise control, leather steering wheel, carbon fibre trim, updated Sony sound system, and dual zone air-conditioning. The car was serviced exclusively by McIntosh up until 2010, and from there by specialists. Delivered new by McIntosh of Mosman in April 1998, the car comes with the original manuals, factory literature, service log book and spare remote key.
This unspoiled and highly original 1998 R170 SLK230 Kompressor has covered just 140,401km since new, and is finished in Zircon Silver with a striking Scarlet two-tone leather interior. Unique to the SLK amongst this new brat-pack of roadsters was its folding steel vario-roof, enabling it to transform in seconds from a convertible to a hard-top coupé. The badge was also derived from naming conventions first used by Mercedes many decades before: Sportlich (sporting)…Leicht (lightweight)…Kurz (short wheelbase). The SLK was designed by Daimler’s legendary chief stylist Bruno Sacco, and was a salute to the classic 190SL of the 1950s…even sharing the earlier car’s 2,400mm wheelbase. In the final few years of the twentieth century, cashed-up sports car fans were treated to the arrival of a flurry of desirable new two-seater roadsters – most notably the Porsche Boxster, the BMW Z3 and the Mercedes-Benz SLK. Later on, DaimlerChrysler used this car as the basis for the Chrysler Crossfire, which was available for the 2004-2008 model years (after the SLK had gone to a new platform).The second half of the 1990s saw two trends emerge which significantly altered the automotive scene: firstly, the rise of the SUV as a passenger car alternative and secondly the reappearance of the compact roadster. You could get this car with a manual transmission, but this one (like nearly all U.S.-market SLKs) has the automatic. This 2.3-liter supercharged inline-four made 190 horsepower, which is about what the six-cylinder BMW Z3 produced.
